Central Park is a runner’s paradise with its lush greenery, iconic landmarks, and well-maintained paths. Depending on what you are looking for there are many different routes that you can enjoy.

• The Reservoir Loop  (1.58 miles / 2.54km)
  • A flat, dirt path that circles the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir. Enjoy breathtaking views of the water and the Manhattan skyline. It is 2.7km from our Lexington Avenue location which if you wanted to run there and back, clocking up a total of almost 8km.
• The Lower Loop (1.7 miles / 2.7km)
  • Slightly closer to our Lexington Avenue location, this route takes you past landmarks like the Bethesda Fountain and Sheep Meadow. This is just 0.8km from the hotel making it a 4.3km round trip.
• The Full Loop (6.1 miles / 9.8km)
  • For a longer workout, this route covers the park’s perimeter and includes rolling hills to challenge your endurance. You can start at the nearest point to our Lexington Avenue location making it a 11.4km round trip.
• Central Park Highlights tour (4.5 miles / 7.2km)
  • Central Park also offer a guided run that lasts for one hour and takes you past famous sights like Bethesda Fountain, The Mall, Strawberry Fields, and many more.

Pro Tip: Early mornings are ideal for avoiding crowds and enjoying the tranquility of the park.

Thanksgiving 

The iconic Macy’s hosts a Thanksgiving Day Parade every year and this beloved tradition draws crowds from all over the world. Held on Thanksgiving morning, the parade starts in Central Park and travels to Macy’s Herald Square with festive floats, balloons and broadway stars! 

There are many restaurants in NYC that offer Thanksgiving menus. The Smith, Carmines and Balthazar to name but a few provide the traditional turkey and seasonal favourites, a perfect way to engage in the festivities on your visit!

The Holidays

The Rockefeller Center Tree Lighting is one of the most iconic events of the holiday and marks the start of the festive season in NYC. The annual Rockefeller Center Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place on Wednesday, December 4th, 2024 during the live broadcast “Christmas at Rockefeller Center”. The event is free but it will attract large crowds so be sure to arrive early if you want to get a good spot!

NYC has an array of famous holiday markets. Winter Village at Bryant park is not to be missed and has an array of artisan stalls with a cosy festive atmosphere! Union Square Holiday Market known for it;s handcrafted gifts is a great spot for one of a kind presents. Finally, Columbus Circle Holiday Market, located on the edge of Central Park offers beautiful city views and an array of holiday goods and gift options!

Of course, what is a trip to NYC during the holiday season without going ice skating! Some of NYCs most iconic ice skating rinks include the Rockefeller Center, Wollman Rink in Central Park and in Bryant Park, the winter rink at the holiday village is free and you have to rent the skates.

• Where to Watch: Some of the best spots to cheer on the runners are along First Avenue between 59th and 96th Streets or near the finish line in Central Park. Join the enthusiastic crowd as the marathon runners push through the final leg of their journey and cheer them on across the finish line!

 

6. Bryant Park Fall Market and Ice Skating

Each fall, the ever seasonal Bryant Park brings a wonderful market with various vendors offering artisanal goods, seasonal foods, and holiday gifts. This will be running from late October and is the perfect place to shop for gifts for yourself or friends! In addition to this, the park’s iconic ice-skating rink opens in late October, so you can lace up your skates and enjoy a few spins! Admission to the rink is free although skate rentals are available for a fee!

There’s no shortage of ways to enjoy fall in Manhattan. If you are feeling particularly halloweeny you could take a trip to Masker Orchards (Warwick, NY) or Harvest Moon Farm & Orchard (North Salem, NY) for some Apple Picking along with many more seasonable activities. Day 1

After grabbing a bite to eat, spend a few hours exploring one of the world’s finest art museums, The Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met). Day 3

Day 4

Get the day started with a guided walking tour of the iconic Grand Central where you can learn about its history, architecture and secrets! You can even reminisce on Serena Van Der Woodsen’s Gossip Girl debut! In the afternoon, take the short walk to Bryant Park that is bustling with activities and entertainment. Take a look at their calendar to see what’s on when you visit. The stunning New York Public Library is just off Bryant Park where you can take in the Rose Main Reading Room and observe the historic architecture. In the evening, head to the Empire State Building’s observation deck for stunning views of the city. Be sure to book your tickets in advance.

Day 5

Take an early ferry to visit the Statue of Liberty. You can learn about the immigrant experience at the Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration. When you return to the mainland, head for Wall Street. Check out the Financial District, Stock Exchange and famous Charging Bull. You can also then visit the 9/11 Memorial Museum and pay your respects. In the evening dine in Lower Manhattan, perhaps at Fraunces Tavern (George Washington bid his officers of the continental army farewell in 1783) or Delmonico’s (Oldest restaurant in nyc established in 1837).

Day 6

On your final day in New York City, visit the Chelsea Market for some last minute shopping and a bite to eat. Walk the High Line and take in the views of the city and the Hudson River. If you have time in the afternoon, head to Soho to check out it’s fun atmosphere and trendy shops.
